My Review of “Get Out”

I am so honored that this year as in a few years past I have the privilege of voting on the SAG Awards. Every week I am sent 2 first run movies for my consideration. The first film I watched was “Get Out” It’s the newest film made by Jordan Peele and it is truly a “thriller” It had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

“Get Out” was written AND directed by Jordan Peele. It stars Daniel Kaluuya as Chris, a black man who visits the family of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams); at their home, the servants are black and act strangely. I mention race because the entire movie is based around it.

Chris and his girlfriend Rose go to upstate New York to visit her parent’s for the weekend. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly welcoming behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of very disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined. This movie is so twisted and has a Stepford Wives” vibe going on. Keep an eye out for Chris’s best friend who is a TSA Agent (played by Lil Rel Howery) he is laugh out loud funny and lightens the mood!

“Get Out” is riveting and in some ways refreshing because I haven’t seen a suspenseful movie like this in years and I loved it!
