“Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” and “If I Stay” Are In Theaters

Sin City:  A Dame to Kill For  (R)
It’s sort of a sequel AND a prequel.  So Mickey Rourke’s back as Marv in the first of four stories, only this time he has amnesia.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in the second story as a poker player who gets in over his head against Powers Boothe, the ruthless Senator Roark.  In the third segment, Eva Green plays the Senator’s wife, and asks Josh Brolin to help her get away from him.

Brolin is actually taking over Clive Owen’s role as private investigator Dwight McCarthy from the first movie.  Another replacement in this one is Dennis Haysbert as the senator’s henchman Manute.  He was originally played by Michael Clarke Duncan.

Jessica Alba returns as Nancy the stripper for the fourth and final segment.  Bruce Willis is in too, even though his character died in the first movie.  He’s watching over her as a ghost, while she plots her revenge against Roark.

The rest of the cast includes Christopher Meloni as a corrupt cop, and Lady Gaga in a brief cameo as a barmaid . . . along withRosario DawsonRay Liotta, and Jeremy Piven.

If I Stay  (PG-13)
Chloe Grace Moretz from the “Kick Ass” movies plays a girl having an out of body experience after a car accident leaves her in a coma.  Stacy Keach plays her grandfather.  And the guy who plays her rock star boyfriend, a British actor named Jamie Blackley, does all his own guitar playing and singing.

When the Game Stands Tall  (PG)

Jim Caviezel from “Person of Interest” stars in this true story about a high school football coach whose 12 year, 151 game winning streak comes to an abrupt end, all within a few months of the coach’s heart attack and a players’ unexpected death.

Alexander Ludwig from the “Hunger Games” is the team’s star running back, and Michael Chiklis is an assistant coach who helps rebuild the team’s sense of self-worth.


Are You Here  (R)

Zach Galifianakis plays a bipolar guy who inherits a fortune from his father, then has his mental competency challenged by his jealous sister.  Amy Poehler is his sister and Owen Wilson plays Zach’s best friend.


Love Is Strange  (R)

John Lithgow and Alfred Molina play an older gay couple who take advantage of the opportunity to finally get legally married . . . only to have it backfire on them when one of them LOSES HIS JOB because of it.  Since they can’t meet their mortgage, Lithgow moves in with his nephew’s family and Molina has to bunk with some neighbors.  Marisa Tomei plays the nephew’s wife.


The One I Love  (R)  

Elizabeth Moss from “Mad Men” and Mark Duplass from the FX show “The League” are an unhappy couple sent by their therapist, Ted Danson, on a romantic weekend . . . where they end up cheating on each other with “perfect doubles” of themselves.
