Feel Good News: Create a Night to Shine for Those with Special Needs on Cape Cod

There’s a new feature each morning on 99.9 The Q. It’s called “Feel Good News.” Our news cycle often pushes the worst news stories to the top of the list – maybe because we’re all so shocked that such horrible things can happen in the world.

But I’ve also noticed a new trend: Heartwarming, loving stories get national attention because they go viral. We all want to celebrate the good in the world. Most often, these people go unrecognized and, on Feel Good Mornings, we’re creating a space to highlight Feel Good News.

Gateway Christian Center, in Mashpee, will be hosting its fourth annual Night to Shine on Friday, Feb. 8, and they need your help. Night to Shine is part of the Tim Tebow Foundation in which the organization create a prom event for those with special needs. The night consists of a dinner in a beautifully decorated dining room, a ride in a limo or trolley, and photos taken. Guests might even be crowned with a tiara or crown! The guests walk down a red carpet, complete with paparazzi and a crowd of well wishes cheering for them before they enter the ballroom with a dance floor and a DJ.

The night requires a LOT of volunteers to make it happen. From people to work the registration table to cheering for the guests on the red carpet, it’s all the volunteers who really make the night a success.

Brittany Currie is the spokesperson for the event. “It’s the most amazing experience. It’s life changing. The atmosphere is so welcoming,” she said. She told us that it’s often hard to get people to volunteer but, if you do it, you won’t regret it. She says that seeing the happiness on the faces of the guests makes it so worth it.

If you know someone who could benefit attending or if you would like to volunteer get all the info at http://www.gatewaycc.cc/night-to-shine/index.html.
