What I might be doing if I wasn’t on the radio…

KarenBlakeBlogImageThe other night I had dinner with some of my high school friends. We were reminiscing and talking about our careers…for some reason my career over the years seems to have fascinated them the most. They asked me what I would be doing if I didn’t get into the radio business. I said my parents (especially my father) and I wanted me to be a singer! I guess like every little kid I would always sing around the house and every time my parents had company they wanted me to sing in front of everyone…every single time! I had a little trouble hitting some of the high notes but still I would belt songs out at the top of my lungs. It’s funny because when I went to college my friends would ask me sing too. It was kind of crazy. Anyway, I secretly always wanted to be on stage in front of a crowd…wear wild outfits and sing. My parents offered to pay for singing lessons but by the time I actually may have wanted to…I was on the radio and into my career.

I often think about what it would have been like if I did take singing lessons and if a show like American Idol was around at that time. Would I have actually auditioned? I also think my parents really didn’t understand what world I would have been thrust into if did make it big. I love them for all their support they truly were the best parents and cheerleaders for their 3 daughters.

I have no regrets. I have always loved radio. It’s been a great career. The best part was always being able to express myself…have fun and not having to get dolled up every single day like I would have if I was on stage. xo
