Should I Adopt a Dog?

For many many years I have wanted to adopt a dog. Probably a smaller dog and definitely a rescue. The question is…is it fair for me to have a dog when I’m not home that much. Since my husband passed I have really wanted a dog even more. For many reasons…because I love dogs, for companionship and I would love to have a new best friend AND an exercise buddy!

I know there are lots of things to consider like: do I really have the time to spend with the dog, do I have the additional funds to provide for the dog, getting the dog spayed or neutered, dog tags and microchipping. Cleaning their teeth, trimming their nails, cleaning, making sure my dog has toys, the proper training, walking the dog, preventing fleas and ticks etc…

I have several friends that have doggies and they work 9 to 5. I work earlier in the morning but I’m home by 2:00 on most days. I have my weekends relatively free especially during the day. So, now that I am thinking this through maybe I CAN adopt a dog and have quality time with him/her,

I think my next step is to go the MSPCA in Centerville to see if there is a doggie that I bond with and that bonds with me.

I know adopting a rescue would be saving a dog’s life and at the same time improving mine. In my book that’s a “win-win”.
