Spring Cleaning Time!

It’s that time of year, time to pull out the heavy artillery and give the house a thorough ‘spring’ cleaning. (I use the term “spring” loosely, because as I see it, if Spring refuses to come, then I don’t have to get in any hurry to clean either, right?)

The thought of tackling intensive cleaning projects can be so overwhelming. It’s a huge undertaking to thoroughly clean an entire house. Cleaning light fixtures, blinds and drapes, deep-cleaning appliances, decluttering common areas, and organizing are certainly not my idea of a good time, but it must get done.

Take last week for example, we had three days without power, and all my normal daily/weekly upkeep came to a screeching halt. Who knew dust and grime thrived in cold, dark houses?! I swear there are 10 times more dust bunnies this week than usual. And the mountains of laundry a family of four can produce in one week are staggering! Now, on top of all the catch up I must do, I have spring cleaning looming over my head. Yo March, enough is enough.

I take to the internet for help looking for a comprehensive cleaning check list, and realized, as a full-time working mother, just how inadequately I’ve been keeping house. Did you know you are supposed to deep clean inside your fridge once a month – because your salad and meat drawers can have 750 times more bacteria than what’s considered safe. Gross! See! This is why I don’t like cleaning; it’s gross. Maybe I’ll just leave it to the professionals this year (wink!).
