That Girl’s Blog: A Little Back-To-School Humor

It’s time for back-to-school everything: Shopping, homework, carpools, baking cupcakes, filling out forms and volunteering.

I am new to the whole process of acclimating to a new school year, as I do not have children of my own. My boyfriend’s children have been kind enough to humor me by letting me tag along with their father to orientation nights and occasionally letting me review their homework on the nights when they have dinner with their father during the week.

I have watched YouTube videos to try to understand “new math”, I have cheered at Little League Games, I have discussed 6th Grade level World History and I have given into the fact that everything I thought I remembered from middle school has long since faded from my aging brain (or has been proven wrong by Wikipedia) and I will likely not be “cool” in the eyes of these children for very long.

This is also the first year I have really have a chance to meet the children’s teachers and their friends’ parents in person. In an attempt to “fit in” I have been scouring the internet for helpful tips to help give the appearance that I know what I am doing. I have “liked” facebook pages and groups for the local school districts and I have scrolled through ALL the First-Day-Of-School pictures and read every post from my friends as they send their children off to school.

And then I found something genius! It was a shared post from a parent in Alabama, that I feel the need to share with you:

Auburn, Alabama PTO Letter to Parents

It is an fundraiser letter for parents from the PTO allowing the parents to “buy” their way out of volunteering. Obviously it has just enough sarcasm to entertain the parents and hopefully they will make a little money, too!

Always remember: No matter how old you are or what situation you are in, always keep your sense of humor and we are all still learning as we go.
