Tips for Taking the Perfect Selfie

FullSizeRender (23)I recently read an article from plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel…he is giving us tips of how to take the perfect “selfie” and let’s be honest it seems that everyone we know is putting up at least one selfie a day! So I’d like to share his tips with you. Let me know if you agree. Dr. Spiegel says…

Women should look up slightly towards the camera as it will make your eyes larger, and raise your eyebrows creating the attractive look of large eyes. I agree with this. I tried it this way and the Dr. is right.

(1) Men should protrude your chin slightly. This creates a strong face and eliminates a double chin. I’ll ask one of my male friends to try this…and I’ll get back to you.

(2) For men and women, slightly lean your neck towards the camera.Yes, this takes away any extra lower fat in the face. Haha!

(3) For Women – a minute before your photo, tap on your lips a few times (somewhat stronger than you’d think!).  This will send blood to your lips making them redder and fuller – both considered very attractive.  Similarly, you can pinch your cheeks a few times to get a little bit of a rosy glow. To be honest…this is a tip I have never tried.  I’ll have to get back to you on this!

(4) Stand at an angle to the camera.  This creates a slimmer body profile, and adds some interest to the photograph.  Also, try slightly lowering the shoulder towards the camera.  This will relatively elongate your neck and slim it out. I make THIS a regular practice. Unless you’re Twiggy you should stand at an angle.

I just try not to blink until the picture is taken.

(6) Smile with your eyes!  A fake smile is just your mouth.  A true smile is when your whole face is laughing.  Think about sending energy to your eyes or smiling with your eyes, and your beauty will shine into the photograph. I like this idea…but I don’t like a full-on laugh because it makes my face look too fat! I do think that when you smile a little it makes your eyes sparkle.

(7) Be relaxed. Think about relaxing your face and trying to convey that to the camera.  And, consider botulinum toxin treatment (e.g. botox  or dysport).  They’ve been shown to not only relax wrinkles, but to actually improve your mood and help you to feel more relaxed and confident.  That emotional change will show in your photos. O.K. so you decide on this one…the Dr. is pushing Botox. I have had Botox and I will admit it does raise my forehead and eyebrows and makes me look better. I wish I could afford it on a regular basis!

I thought I would share with you a bunch of my selfies. I hope you like them!

Karen
