To Cut Or Not To Cut?

The two things you see in this photo that have always been constants in my life, cats and my long hair. Ok, so for once, I’m not writing an article about cats. This time it’s about my hair. I’ve had long blonde hair all of my life, it’s kind of my thing, it makes me, “me”. I find it easy to maintain and I like it. Lately, I’ve been thinking about cutting it though.

I’ve only had short hair once in my life before. It was back when I was 20 years old and on a whim, I went to Supercuts and told them to chop it. I can almost guarantee that my reasoning for this spontaneous salon visit was because I saw a cute, short haircut on a celebrity and wanted to mimic it. Unfortunately for me, my hair didn’t come out at all like a celebrity hairdo…instead I looked like a mushroom head. It was way too short and certainly not a good look for me. I remember that I liked it for a total of one day. I also remember that during that time with my short hair, I didn’t have one single date or boyfriend. It may just be a coincidence, but I tend to think it was my terrible haircut.

I guess it’s pretty much a given that I will never go that short again. I am thinking of maybe a long bob this time, like (oh here we go again with the celebrity ‘do!) Carrie Underwood’s new hairdo. It looks so cute on her, but I’m afraid it won’t look half as cute on me. I also worry that I won’t have the time to maintain it. Oh who am I kidding, I won’t make the time to maintain it. I’m going to sleep in ’til the last possible second and then wonder why my hair looks boring and flat.

So why am I thinking about cutting it anyway? Maybe I need a change? Nope. I have one reason for wanting to cut it. It’s so long now that it gets caught in everything and constantly pulled and I’m sick of that!! It gets caught in jacket zippers, my car seatbelt, other people’s car seatbelts, my cats and dog step on it and pull it while I’m sleeping or sitting on the couch and my husband pulls it when he puts his arm around me. I’m SO flippin’ tired of my hair getting pulled and caught in everything, and THAT is why I want to cut it.

So, should I or shouldn’t I? Summer is coming, it might be nice to have a shorter cut going into the warmer months, and not having it stepped on and pulled would be pretty amazing. It’s just hair, it’ll grow back, right? 🙂
