Weather Jealousy

Weather jealousy – I think I suffer from it.

There are some amazing advantages to living on Cape Cod, mostly, our amazing surroundings: the national seashore, the Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, the Islands, national parks, salt marshes, the rail trails, and let’s not forget about the fresh-off-the-boat succulent seafood, but frankly, the weather so far sucks!

I’m really struggling with this Cape Cod spring – or lack thereof. The dreary, cold weather is taking a toll. I need sunshine; and a little warm weather wouldn’t hurt. Who’s with me?

This time of year is especially hard; I have family and friends spread all over the country, not to mention with April school vacation some will be flocking to warmer climates. The warm weather posts on social media are inevitable. Is it socially irresponsible to give the angry-face emoji just because I’m jealous your warm weather? This is where my Mother’s voice pops in my head ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything’. So, Mom, your welcome that I didn’t give your blooming spring flowers post thumbs down; I’m practicing self-restraint.

Beach weather will be here soon, but it’s hard to focus when some 2500 marathon runners were treated for cold weather-related symptoms. Wasn’t it just last year it was 80 degrees and runners were fleeing to misting stations to cool down from heat exhaustion? Good ol’ Mother Nature.

Cheers to your tropical beach vacations and record-breaking heatwaves across the country. I’ll just be here with my heat cranked pretending it’s mid-April on the Cape.
