Cape Cod will once again be home to New England’s largest dog festival with the return of Paw Palooza on July 14 and 15 at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. The extravaganza is put on by The Agway of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation and benefits the Cape’s two largest animal shelters — the MSPCA in Centerville and the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s shelter in Brewster.

Now in its third year, Paw Palooza has become the signature, summer event for dog lovers who live on or are visiting the Cape. In 2017, more than 10,000 people and hundreds of dogs attended the two-day festival. The Foundation has donated more than $50,000 to the Animal Rescue League and the MSPCA over the past two years as a result of the festival.

Paw Palooza will once again feature the thrilling action of an official DockDogs competition. The country’s fastest growing canine sport, DockDogs showcases dogs leaping into a 40-foot pool as they compete for distance, height and speed. Competitors are expected to travel from across the country to compete and wow the crowds, but local novices are also welcome to try for the first time. Registration can be done online www.pawpaloozacapecod.com or on site starting at 8 AM July 14 and 15.

Additionally this year, the festival will include performances by the world-famous Canines in the Clouds Stunt Dogs. The team of all rescue dogs performs agility, frisbee catching and jaw dropping tricks and stunts. They’ve been featured on Animal Planet, Late Night with David Letterman, ESPN and more! Canines in the Clouds will perform multiple times on both Saturday and Sunday in the Paw Palooza Show Ring (check pawpaloozacapecod.com for times)!

The weekend will also include K-9 demos from our local police departments each morning at 11:30 AM. Units from the Yarmouth Police Department and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Police Department will demonstrate how their K-9 partners work in the field, followed by a Q&A. As a tribute to fallen Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon, performers from Hyannis Sound and Cape Harmony will also be on hand both days providing mini concerts to raise money for the Sean Gannon Memorial Foundation. The all-star a cappella groups will be roving the festival grounds and doing “pop up” performances while collecting donations.

The massive festival also includes a puppy pool pavilion; a “Doggie University” tent; a caricature artist; a “radar run” for dogs to test their speed; a lure course; an interactive agility course; a puppy spa zone with doggie massages, facials and more; a raffle; a vendor fair with nearly 100 local and national companies; a doggie kissing booth; “pupcasso” art making for pups; face painting; a Kids Zone; food trucks; and tons of unique activities for dogs and their families. Admission is $7 (no charge for kids 12 and under or dogs).

Agway of Cape Cod’s Paw Palooza takes place at Dennis Yarmouth High School, 210 Station Avenue in Yarmouth. Hours on Saturday, July 14 are 9 AM – 6 PM, and on Sunday, July 15 from 9 AM – 4 PM. Free parking is available at DY High School and the adjacent Station Avenue Elementary School. Multiple food trucks will be on hand selling lunch, ice cream and other goodies. All well-socialized, rabies vaccinated, leashed dogs are welcome!

Dog lovers won’t want to miss this year’s festival because moving forward, Paw Palooza will be held every two years. In order to keep the event fresh and guarantee its longevity, organizers have decided to make it a biennial event. That means that after this summer, the next chance opportunity to attend a Paw Palooza won’t be until July 2020!

Paw Palooza is supported by dozens of generous businesses, including this year’s presenting sponsors: Nauset Pet Services, Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod/Brewster Veterinary Hospital, Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, Seresto and Wholesale Embroidery. Paw Palooza is also sponsored in part by The Town of Yarmouth’s Tourism Preservation Fund.
