The library is pleased to present author Robert M. Reece, MD, speaking onThursday, November 30 at 6:30pm. Reece will discuss his novels “Double Blind Double Cross” and “To Tell the Truth”. This is a free event. The library is located at 575 West Falmouth Highway
Reece says, “I wrote “Double Blind Double Cross” with three goals in mind: First, to explain what post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) does to war veterans. I believe better understanding of the damaging effects of PTSD can lead to better funding and care of those who have laid their lives on the line for the rest of us. The second goal is to describe how a double blind study is often conducted in human subjects. The third goal was to dramatize potential temptations in the pharmaceutical industry to put profit ahead of patient benefits from drugs they produce.”
Based on Reece’s forty years of clinical and trial experiences in abusive head trauma (shaken baby syndrome) cases, “To Tell The Truth” describes a fictional case of a young babysitter charged with second degree murder of Luke Talbot, a seven-month-old infant in her care. The story takes the reader from the infant’s sudden collapse, through the harrowing hospital course and the arrest and trial of the babysitter. A veteran child abuse pediatrician who has watched this trial from start to finish offers his prescription for changing the process of qualifying experts in medical trials.
Reece is a retired clinical professor of pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine.
