“Fever Pitch” Movie at Dennis Public Library

On Thursday, April 19th at 5:30 p.m., join us at our monthly “Book to Movie Night” at Dennis Public Library.  This month’s feature is the 2005 romantic comedy film, loosely based on Nick Hornby’s best–selling 1992 memoir, Fever Pitch:  A Fan’s Life.    The movie is directed by the Farrelly brothers and stars Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon.  Seven year old Ben (Fallon) becomes obsessed with the Boston Red Sox when his uncle brings him to his first game and he later inherits his uncle’s season tickets.  Everything Ben owns has the Red Sox logo.  Two decades later, Ben, now a teacher, meets Lindsey (Barrymore), a workaholic professional who knows nothing about the Red Sox.  Their romance progresses, but finally Lindsey tires of Ben’s devotion to the Sox and they break up. Ben rashly decides to sell his season tickets in an effort to prove to Lindsey that she means more to him than the Red Sox.  Lindsey arrives at Fenway Park during the 8th inning of the Red Sox-Yankees playoff game, determined to stop him.  The Red Sox won that game amidst pandemonium.  The original screenplay assumed the Red Sox would lose the playoffs, but they astounded the baseball world by defeating the Yankees for the 2004 ALCS title. They went on to win the World Series against the St Louis Cardinals, finally breaking the “Curse of the Bambino.”   This resulted in a rewrite of the movie’s ending to reflect this unforgettable victory.  The movie is rated PG13 and has a run time of one hour and 43 minutes.  Closed captioning is available.  We’ll provide snacks and drinks.  The Dennis Public Library is located at the corner of Route 28 and Hall Street in Dennis Port.
