The Cape Cod Astronomical Society next meeting, held in the school library, is free and open to the public.

Dr. Jim Lynch, “Spectroscopy:  Basic Theory and What It Tells Us About the Universe.” Spectroscopes look at the line spectra of stars to obtain their properties. This is, in essence, a simple pattern recognition, like fingerprinting. But what can spectroscopes do past there?

By digging a bit deeper into the physics of atomic and molecular spectra and the astronomical objects that create them, Dr. Lynch shows in as simple terms as possible what we can learn about the universe.
