Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Seeking Colleens

YARMOUTH – The Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and the Sons of Erin have extended the deadline for the annual Colleen Pageant applications through January 21.

In conjunction with the parade each year, a Colleen Queen and three court members are awarded college scholarships and ride upon a special float in the parade, which takes place on Saturday, March 4 in Yarmouth.

The Queen and her court will be announced during the coronation ceremony on March 3rd during the parade’s annual Grand Marshal’s Dinner Dance held at the Irish Village.

The Colleens are selected by members of the St. Patrick’s parade committee and Sons of Erin.

Applicants must be female high school seniors of Irish descent with plans for continued education in an accredited program and at least a B average in school.

Along with the applications, applicants need a letter of reference from a high school teacher, member of the clergy or community/civic department leader, and an essay describing what her Irish heritage means to her.

The Colleen Queen will receive a $1,000 college scholarship and the three runner-up court winners will each receive a $500 scholarship.

The application can be downloaded at capecodstpatsparade.com.

The 12th Annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade steps off at 11 AM.

It will begin at Bass River Sports World at the intersection of Long Pond Drive and Route 28 in South Yarmouth and follow Route 28 west over the Parker’s River Bridge.

The approximately two mile route will end at Town n Country Motel.
