Cape Cod’s Jonah

The tale of the Sandwich whaler who landed in a whale’s mouth and survived will be told March 24 at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Nils Bockmann of Mashpee will relate the story of Peleg Nye and describe the dangerous industry of 18th century whalers at the 2 p.m. lecture sponsored by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.

Nye was a first mate who shipped out of Provincetown in 1834. After his experience he returned as a hero, known as “Jonah of Cape Cod.” Admission is $10. Reservations are not required.
