“The Man Who Invented Christmas” Movie at Dennis Public Library

On Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 5:30 p.m., join us for our monthly movie night at Dennis Public Library.  This month’s feature is the 2017 biographical drama based on the 2008 novel, The Man Who Invented Christmas: How Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol Rescued His Career and Revived Our Holiday Spirit by Les Standiford.  Dan Stevens stars as Charles Dickens, with Jonathan Pryce as his father John, and Christopher Plummer as Scrooge.  Following the success of Oliver Twist, Dickens’ next few attempts at publishing are met with failure.  He begins writing A Christmas Carol only a few weeks before the holiday. His plot inspiration is from observing a wealthy man’s funeral with very few attendees.  The film also portrays how the character of Scrooge is based on the difficult relationship between Charles and his father. This movie is rated PG and has a run time of 1 hour and 45 minutes.  Closed captioning is available.  We’ll provide popcorn and drinks.  The Dennis Public Library is located at the corner of Route 28 and Hall Street in Dennis Port.
