In the early 1880s, about 25 residents of Barnstable Village founded St. Mary’s as a parish of the Episcopal Church. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church has been serving the community since the late 1800’s. St. Mary’s church has grown from its humble beginnings to its present complex of church, parish hall, gardens, (love the Daffodil Tea), educational building and rectory. Peter Gwynne is a science writer and editor who has been a member of St. Mary’s church since he moved to Cape Cod in 1995. He has given occasional tours of the church that emphasize the artifacts gathered over the years and is a member of the task force responsible for the present renovation.
