Payomet Performing Arts Center Presents The Holmes Brothers with Ada Dyer

At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday February 15 you’ll know — if you don’t already — why Wendell and Sherman Holmes are two of our favorite music artists ever. Now add vocalist Ada Dyer (her given name is “Adiritha” but she’ll have you thinking “Aretha”) and it becomes an afternoon delight. The title of this show is The Holmes Brothers with Ada Dyer, and with the fourth player, percussionist Kahlil Kwame Bell on drums, you might just call it a Valentine’s Day concert to remember. (Okay, it’s the day after Valentine’s Day!) This quartet marks a new chapter in the journey of Sherman and Wendell Holmes who in 1963 started their career in Christchurch, Virginia as The Sevilles and then toured and recorded for the last three decades as The Holmes Brothers, a trio with drummer and vocalist Popsy Dixon, who passed on January 9 of this year. You can look for the soulful Chicago-born Ada Dyer to add her own lustrous vocals to a concert that will move freely from R&B to Gospel, Funk Jams, and Popular Song. Bring your sweetheart or come alone and find one… or just sit back, and enjoy!
