This course examines Irish History from the arrival of the Vikings in 795 AD to the Easter Rising in 1916. The course will present as follows: week 1-The Vikings (Norsemen and Danes) and their impact on Ireland, 2- the arrival of the Normans and the history of Ireland from the 12th to the 16th Century, 3-the Re-conquest of Ireland: 1536 – 1691, 4-Irish people as slaves and indentured laborers, 5-The Penal Laws and 6-1798 to 1916: The Rebellion. This class will be taught by Sean Murphy of Dublin, Ireland and Cape Cod. He has studied the Economic and Political History of Ireland and has Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Sociology and Politics.
