On Thursday, October 19, at 5:30 p.m., join us at our monthly “Book to Movie Night” at Dennis Public Library. This month’s feature is the 1974 classic comedy horror film Young Frankenstein based (loosely) on Mary Shelley’s novel and the original 1931 film Frankenstein. Directed by Mel Brooks, with an allstar cast including Gene Wilder, Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn, it was deemed in 2003 as “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” by the United States National Film Preservation Board and was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. Young Frankenstein was filmed entirely in black and white to elicit the imagery of the original movie. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Wilder), who is the grandson of the legendary mad scientist, inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. Once there, Frederick decides to continue his grandfather’s work in resurrecting the dead. He is assisted by the hunch-backed servant Igor (Feldman) and a pretty, young assistant Inga (Garr). Frederick’s experiment backfires and hilarious chaos ensues. Double entendres abound. Even if you have already seen this movie, it is worth seeing again! Rated PG, this film has a run time of one hour and 45 minutes. Closed captioning is available upon request. We’ll provide snacks and drinks. The Dennis Public Library is located at the corner of Route 28 and Hall Street in Dennis Port.
