Brewster Meeting House

Drawing from the informality of an Open Mic format we are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community’s musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.

Open Mic Classical is an opportunity for classical musicians of all ages and levels to perform before a live and sympathetic audience, and also meet other musicians. Our events are held at 3:00 on the third Sunday of each month at the First Parish UU Church in Brewster, at 1969 Main St. Performers are asked to come at 2:45, and performers needing piano accompaniment are asked to contact Monika Woods (774-353-0244)or Bob Marcus (508-945-0832) a few days earlier.

We also welcome members of the Cape Community who want to be in touch with developing – and developed – musical talent on Cape Cod. All of our Open Mic Classical events also include featured performances by seasoned players.

There is no admissions charge, but donations are accepted.

We are privileged to announce that our guest performer on Sunday, June 17th, will be Dr. Stephanie Weaver, Director of the Cape Conservatory.

A native of Canada, pianist Stephanie Weaver began her studies through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, under the tutelage of Maida Campbell and Rivoli Iesularo. She received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano performance and literature from the University of Western Ontario and her Doctor of Musical Arts, also in piano performance and literature, from Michigan State University under the tutelage of John Paul Bracey, Yong Hi Moon, Deborah Moriarty and Ralph Votapek.

Stephanie has served on the faculties of Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Grand Valley State University and Concordia University. She has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist extensively in Canada and the United States and has been a prizewinner in a number of competitions, including the Canadian Music Competition, Chamber Music Division. In addition, she has been a featured ensemble artist on Radio Western and CBC, in performances with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and others. She has also been awarded numerous academic scholarships, including the William S. Wyatt Scholarship, the UWO Entrance Scholarship and the TRW Academic Division Scholarship Award. She also has served as an adjudicator for numerous organizations, including the MASTA Chamber Music Festival, MMTA and the American Guild of Music.

Stephanie has been the collaborative pianist for the Falmouth Chorale since 2012, and recently performed Beethoven’s Fourth piano Concerto with the Falmouth Chamber Players, both under the direction of John Yankee.

Since 2011, Dr. Weaver has been the Managing Director of the Cape Conservatory, following the 2010 merger of the Cape Symphony and Conservatory. She previously was the Executive Director of the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts, one of 800 educational centers across the nation affiliated with the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. Her ongoing mission is to make the arts more accessible to students of all ages and to make the Conservatory a continual source of inspiration—inside the classroom and out in the community.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Stephanie is an avid ice hockey player.
