Brewster Meeting House

We bring you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music based on an Open Mic format, to help our community’s musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.

Open Mic Classical is an opportunity for classical musicians of all ages and levels to perform before a live and sympathetic audience, and also meet other musicians. Our events are held at 3:00 on the third Sunday of each month at the First Parish UU Church in Brewster, at 1969 Main St. Performers are asked to come at 2:45, and performers needing piano accompaniment are asked to contact Monika Woods (774-353-0244)or Bob Marcus (508-945-0832) a few days earlier.

We also welcome members of the Cape Community who want to be in touch with developing – and developed – musical talent on Cape Cod. High points of our Open Mic Classical events are featured performances by seasoned players.

While there is no admissions charge, donations are encouraged.

We are privileged to announce that our guest performer on Sunday, September 16, will be Joan Kirchner, a Cape Cod-based soloist for oratorio, opera, and recital repertoire

In a region rich with musical talent, Joan Kirchner is a stand-out. Whether she is delivering a witty, inventive rendering of Cole Porter or an insightful twist on a medieval work, Joan Kirchner engages and uplifts her audiences with the beauty and clarity of her voice, her lively imagination, and her charismatic stage presence.

Joan has performed with many of the top musical groups in the region and beyond, including Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, Toronto’s Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, the Masterworks Chorale, Chorus North Shore, theWoods Hole Cantata Consort, and the Chatham Chorale.

Pursuing her passion for early music, Joan has worked with some of the world’s foremost musicians, including the famed Austrian conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt; the highly acclaimed musicologist, and leader in the movement to perform early music on period instruments, Gustav Leonhardt; and Ton Koopman, another important leader in the authentic performance movement.

Joan is herself the co-founder of the Renaissance group OYEZ!which performs regularly here on the Cape.

A native of western New York State, Joan holds two bachelor’s degrees from Houghton College, one in Music and a second in Business Administration. She earned a master’s degree with distinction in Music from Indiana University, and studied at the Eastman School of Music. In addition to her public performances, Joan performs for private events, serves churches throughout the Cape, and teaches voice, piano, flute, and organ at her home studio in Brewster.

Joan sings regularly with I Musicisti, a group of musicians from the Cape and greater Boston area whose mission is to educate and continue the performance of classical music. They perform at venues throughout the region, presenting “Sensational Soirées” and other events designed to cap the day for lovers of great music.
