Drawing from the informality of an Open Mic format we are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community’s musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.

Open Mic Classical is an opportunity for classical musicians of all ages and levels to perform before a live and sympathetic audience, and also meet other musicians. Our events are held at 3:00 on the third Sunday of each month at the First Parish UU Church in Brewster at 1969 Main St. Performers are asked to come at 2:45 to sign up, and performers needing piano accompaniment are asked to contact Monika or Bob a few days earlier.

We also welcome members of the Cape Community who want to be in touch with developing – and developed – musical talent on Cape Cod. It should be noted that all of our Open Mic Classical events include featured performances by seasoned players.

We are very excited to announce that our featured performer on Sunday, October 15th, 2017 will be flutist LeeAnn McKenna with Lucy Banner on piano. A native Rhode Islander, Ms. McKenna had the great privilege to work with some of the greatest classical flute players of the 20th and 21st centuries: Jean Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker (New York Philharmonic), Mindy Kaufmann (New York Philharmonic), Carol Wincenc, Lois Schaeffer (Boston Symphony Orchestra), Michael Hasel (Berlin Philharmonic), and Donald Peck (Chicago Symphony).

She has performed throughout Europe and much of the East and West coasts on the United States, as well as two tours to Puerto Rico as a soloist, orchestral player, and in chamber music settings. LeeAnn continues to perform throughout the Pacific Northwest and records with the Red Lantern Ensemble (a small chamber group presenting a wide variety of music and ensemble types) and Thousand Waves (flute, classical guitar, Japanese koto, bass, and percussion), an ensemble presenting a variety of styles of music from jazz to tangos, renaissance to modern, Japanese to Irish, and much more. She can also be heard at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Chatham and occasionally at the Cape Cod Jazz Jam. She is also a new member of the Tri-County Symphonic Band In Marion, Massachusetts.

There is no admissions charge, but donations are accepted.
