Talk of the Town Speaker Series – The popular Talk of the Town Speaker Series ends with the last talk on October 23, 2019 entitled 1620: The First Year by Christopher Daley.

As the 400th Anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims approaches, we are reminded of the trials and tribulations of the Pilgrims.  They came seeking relgious freedom and found an untabed inhospitable wilderness fraught with innumerable dangers.  They struggled wiht disease and death and survived through the grace of God and with the help of the “People of the Dawn” – the Wampanoag Nation.

The talk will examine the difficult voyage over the Atlantic and the decision to land on Cape Cod rather than the intended destination; near the Hudson River.  The talk will also focus on the beinnings of Plymouth colony, the inhabitants, the plague of 1618, the layout and the building of the colony as well as the role the Native people played in the survival of the Pilgrims.

The lecture is held at 7 pm at  at the Sandwich Glass Museum. Doors open at 6:45 pm.  Admission is FREE.  Seats are available on a first-come, first0-serve basis. The series is made possible by the Sandwich Cultural Council.
