Artist’s Statement:
Land and seascape paintings are, for me, about capturing a sense of place. The experience of solitude is the starting point; the sense of being alone and engulfed by the landscape is one I frequently seek out. I am especially drawn to places where the sea meets the sky in such a way that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. I seek out dramatic weather and lighting conditions. I love hazy days when the ocean melts into the sky, watching a thick fog roll in, snowstorms, and experiencing the changes in light when a summer storm comes through. I am always searching for something different in the atmosphere that shifts and changes the mood of a place; it allows me to play with that feeling and recreate it as I paint.
