10 Almost FREE Things To Do To Honor Mom On Her Special Day!

Okay, tomorrow is Mother’s Day.

You’re out of cash, you haven’t had time to “get crafty” on a gift, so what do you do to honor that special Mom in your life?

Here’s some frugal but meaningful “lifesaving” ideas.

Remember it’s really all about spending quality time… vs. what activity you will eventually do together.

So… here are ten almost FREE things to do to Honor Mom on her special day!

  1. Its Cape Cod right?  Take her for a walk on the National Seashore.  If she’s young, walk the dunes….if she isn’t a drive along the coast stopping at various scenic viewpoints.
  2. Rent two bikes (and helmets) and enjoy an hour on the Cape’s many bike paths.  If Mom’s too fragile to bike:  Grab your computer and take her on a YouTube trip around the Cape showing her several videos like this one.
  3. Buy a book of poetry and choose a pleasant spot to read to her.
  4. Draw up a coupon offering free services on demand.  For Example:  Cook a meal for Mom.  Drive Mom somewhere she wants to go. Three hours hard labor in her vegetable garden.
  5. Learn together.  Check your local adult ed or arts center locations for free (or almost free) classes you might find of mutual interest.  Painting, pottery, art appreciation, cooking, or learn a new language….the gift is the act of spending time together vs. what you actually learn!
  6. Take her on a lighthouse tour of several of the Cape’s most iconic sites.
  7. Spend an hour loading her tablet with special photos of the family and take the time to show her how to view them!
  8. It’s Spring!  Help Mom move her winter clothes to the back of the closet or into storage and get out the Spring wardrobe!
  9. Reminisce over a box of old photos you dig out of her basement.
  10. Write her an essay describing a time when Mom was there for you when you needed her.
