Memorial Day is a day to remember and pay respects to those who lost their lives fighting for our country. We owe them a great deal of respect and thanks for helping preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today.
Let us not lose the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Chatham Memorial Day Ceremony
Monday, May 30, 2016

World War I Memorial, Main Street; Nickerson Park; Oyster Pond; Seaview and Main Street; and Veteran’s Circle
Participants will assemble at Veterans Field Road parking lot beginning at 9:30 AM.
The ceremony will move to five different memorial sites and conclude at Veterans Circle. At each site there will be a brief ceremony.
In the event of inclement weather the Memorial Day Ceremony will be held in the Community Center beginning at 10:00.

Operation Flags for Vets
Operation Flags for Vets will again be placing flags on the graves at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts for Memorial Day. We are looking for volunteers to help with this worthy and solemn endeavor. People of all ages are welcomed to help in the placement of the 66,000 flags on the final resting place of our beloved veterans.
A short ceremony will be held at the flagpole at the end of the Avenue of Flags at 10 AM followed by the actual placement of the flags. Please bring a long-shanked screwdriver with you to aid in making starter holes for the flags. Also, please do not begin planting flags before the end of the ceremony. Flag removal will take place on Sunday June 5 at 10 AM.

Barnstable’s Annual Memorial Day Parade
The Town of Bartnstable’s Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016. The parade will form at 9:30 am at the Centerville Library and kick off sharply at 10:00am and proceed down Main Street to Monument Square for a brief program then up Old Stage Road to Beedchwood Cemetary.
Following the Memorial Day Parade there will be a Memorial Day program at the John F. Kennedy Memorial at Veterans Park Beach at 12:15pm for a brief program to honor our past President.

The Annual Sandwich American Legion Post 188 Memorial Day Parade
The Annual Sandwich American Legion Post 188 Memorial Day Parade will be held on Memorial Day — Monday, May 30.
Participants must be at the former Henry T. Wing Elementary School on 33 Water St. by 9 a.m. Parade will start at that location at 10 a.m., stopping to place wreaths on several veteran memorials with ceremonies to follow in front of the Sandwich Public Library.
State Rep. Randy Hunt, R-Sandwich, is this year’s keynote speaker.
JFK Memorial
The John F. Kennedy Memorial Trust Fund Committee annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at approximately 12:15 p.m., Monday, May 30th, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial on Ocean Street (located next to Veterans Beach). The Ceremony will be assisted by a group of Cub Scouts from Pack 54, the Barnstable Police Department Honor Guard and other special guests. It is at this ceremony that the 2016 JFK Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship will be awarded to this year’s recipient, a 2016 Barnstable High School Graduate. This year’s scholarship winner of $2,500 is Jack Pipatti. Three finalists were considered for the scholarship. All finalists had incredible academic and extracurricular activity records. These students are a wonderful tribute to our community and its school system.
