Lobster, clams or fried fish: It’s what’s for dinner.
At least, that is what everyone expects when they come to Cape Cod. But just like life on Cape Cod isn’t all sandbars and oyster-shucking, culinary experiences on the Cape go way beyond chow-dah. And if you’re vegetarian – or just a fan of the occasional meatless dish – Cape Cod offers a full plate of options. Vegetarians, vegans and just plain healthier eaters will find a variety of eateries that cater to them. Here are some of our favorites:
Siena Restaurant, 17 Steeple Street (Mashpee Commons), Mashpee
Siena is a classic Italian eatery with some specialty vegetarian plates that are hard to find elsewhere. A great place to meet with a group or dine on a date, Siena offers many vegetarian dishes and may be the only Italian restaurant in the region to offer a separate vegan-friendly menu.
Don’t miss: Butternut Squash Tortellacci, Artichoke and Basil Risotto (Vegan)
Dan’l Webster Inn, 149 Main Street, Sandwich
A legendary Cape Cod establishment, the Dan’l Webster Inn is one of the most elegant settings for special occasion dining on Cape Cod. Vegetarians love the Dan’l Webster since they are always remembered on their daily and holiday menus. Be sure to make a reservation!
Don’t miss: Just ask for a vegetarian dish – it is bound to be elegant and delicious. Also, indulge in their pavlova or crème brulee-de-jour desserts.
Green Lotus Café, 349 Main Street, Hyannis
The first, and so far only, dedicated vegetarian and vegan restaurant on Cape Cod features innovative sandwiches, desserts, coffee, tea, juices, bubble tea and healthy snacks. And they all be made with or without dairy. A must-visit for any vegetarian or vegan, Green Lotus is open mornings and afternoons only.
Don’t miss: Veggie Reuben, Kickstarter, Soup of the Day
Pavilion Indian, 511 Main Street, Hyannis
One of the few places on Cape Cod with a dedicated vegetarian menu, Pavilion is also a great destination for lovers of spice. Vegans may wish to ask their server which options are without dairy.
Don’t miss: Malai Kofta, Garlic Naan with Raita
Bangkok Kitchen, 339 Barnstable Road, Hyannis
Don’t mistake this Thai restaurant for a hole-in-the-wall not worthy of your time. Accommodations here may be modest, but the food is a few cuts above most other Thai establishments within a 50-mile radius, and the staff is delightful and welcoming. You’ll find traditional Thai options, almost all of which can be vegetarian or vegan – just be sure to double check with servers, since some are made with a fish sauce.
Don’t miss: Pad Kee Mao, Massaman Curry, Lemongrass entrée
Earthly Delights, Natural Foods To Go, 15 West Bay Road, Osterville
Dependably healthy and tasty foods come from Earthly Delights, where they specialize in getting your food to you quickly. Enjoy generous portions, fresh smoothies and juices.
Don’t miss: Blackened tofu or Mediterranean sandwiches
Idgy’s Gluten Free Dining, 23S Whites Path, South Yarmouth
As the name implies, this hidden gem specializes in gluten-free foods. But they also boast a vegan dessert menu and plenty of tantalizing vegetarian breakfast and lunch plates.
Don’t miss: Curried tofu stir fry, tofu burrito with home fries, vegan cupcakes
Underground Bakery, 780 Main Street, Route 6A, Dennis
A breakfast and lunch spot that offers a ton of vegan options, from mac & cheese to falafel, to soup and seitan.
Don’t miss: Vegan cheesesteak, Tofu scramble
Guapo’s Tortilla Shack, Staples Plaza, Orleans
A taco and burrito place with excellent homemade salsa and sauces. They have their own vegetarian menu and burritos as long as your forearm. Need we say more?
Don’t miss: Costa Rican burrito
Karoo South African Cuisine, 3 Main Street, Eastham
Karoo features a mix of British, Dutch, African, Malaysian, Portuguese and Indian flavors, with many of African-born chef Sanette Groenewald’s recipes dating back eight generations. They have one dedicated “vegetarian plate,” but Groenewald’s menu allows for vegetarian and vegan-friendly protein swaps for the more traditional plates.
Don’t miss: Tofu Bobotie, Vegan Bunny Chow
Sunbird Kitchen & Café, 85 Route 6A, Orleans
A relaxing bird-themed venue with food unlike anything else on the Cape, Sunbird Kitchen offers some typical café fare with a delicious and (usually) healthy twist. They use seasonal and local ingredients wherever possible, which keeps money in the community. The cafe’s vegetarian and vegan dishes are sure to destroy any assumption that meatless and dairyless food can’t be rich, delicious and satisfying. A bit more suited to vegetarians, but some vegan options are occasionally available.
Don’t miss: Any of the daily specials (like Chai Spice Porridge!), Brioche French Toast, Blood Orange Creamsicle Cookie
Grab n’ Go Health Bar, 212 Commercial Street, Provincetown
For a refreshing beverage, snack or treat, hit up the Grab n’ Go. It has the largest selection of intriguing and mouth-watering juices and smoothies on the Cape, paired with frozen yogurt and vegan soft serve. They also have a rotating menu of vegetarian and vegan raw food and desserts.
Don’t miss: Any of their unique smoothies
Blissed-Out Organic Juice and Smoothie Bar, 65 Main Street, Vineyard Haven
Blissed-Out is the perfect way to recharge after strolling or biking through the Vineyard. Try the Cacao Kapow or lemonade with agave. The large menu focuses on bringing healthy, invigorating ingredients together in robust juices and smoothies. They also have a rotating raw food snack menu.
Don’t miss: Avocado Bliss, Lemon Ginger and “Best Smoothie Ever”
Scottish Bakehouse, 977 State Road, Vineyard Haven
The only place on Martha’s Vineyard where you can find complete vegetarian and vegan meals. Most of their wholesome, hearty options are able to be made with tofu or beans and are inspired by plates from around the world.
Don’t miss: Coconut tofu, Spicy peanut noodles, a changing selection of vegan baked goods
There’s so many more than this.
J-Bar in Harwich, 141 Bradford in Provincetown, the Pickle Jr in Falmouth has options… so many more
I must show some appreciation to you just for rescuing me from this type of
setting. Just after searching through the search engines and seeing
tips which are not pleasant, I believed my entire life was well over.
Being alive minus the solutions to the issues
you’ve sorted out by way of this website is
a serious case, and ones that would have negatively damaged my career if I hadn’t discovered your website.
Your own know-how and kindness in controlling almost everything was very
useful. I’m not sure what I would have done if I had not
come across such a point like this. I can at this moment look
ahead to my future. Thanks for your time very much for the specialized and sensible guide.
I will not be reluctant to refer your web page to any person who will need recommendations about
this matter. https://thermosculptpro.net/
Great selections you posted. Thanks
Green lotus in Hyannis is one of my favorites and don’t miss out on the roasted vegetable pizza ( minus the cheese ) at the Talkative Pig in Harwich. It’s to die for. I’m a pizza lover and get cheeseless pizzas everywhere nothing compares to this one. My wife loves the green salad with chicken.
Prices are very reasonable
