Alberto’s: A Place For a Night of Great Food, Drink, Atmosphere, and Conversation

For quite a few years, I had heard of Alberto’s Restaurant in Hyannis, but never actually been. I can’t really explain why. It wasn’t really out of my way to get there. It came very highly recommended. So why not go? Last Friday, I took my parents out for a meal there to see what everyone’s been talking about. Now, full disclosure—they didn’t have to work too hard to impress me. I love Italian food, it’s one of my favorites, so as long as it wasn’t a greasy spoon place, I knew I’d be okay. I’m also in no way extremely qualified to be a restauranteur, so here’s my incredibly amateur review.

When I first walked in, I saw that the place was certainly full and everyone was coming in quickly, so I was very glad we made a reservation. That said, if you’re planning on going to Alberto’s—make one! Anyway, we were seated in a very nice table in the dining area next to the window overlooking Main Street in Hyannis, which is quite nice on a summer night. After drinks were ordered (in case you were curious my father and myself had a beer and my Mom a glass of red wine) we ordered our appetizers and entrees and settled in for a nice evening of good eats and conversation. I had a Caesar Salad, which I thought was very good. The trouble with some Caesar Salads is that the dressing can be very vinegary and not creamy and garlicy. Well fortunately, this particular Caesar had great dressing. For dinner I ordered their gnocchi Pomodoro, which was potato-pasta with a sausage, two meatballs, and beef brisket all mixed in with a delicious tomato sauce. It was quite honestly one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a very long time. It was pretty much everything I could ask for in a meal from any restaurant and it was made to absolute perfection. I even took some of the leftover bread rolls from the bread basket and dipped them in the sauce. Now for those who would want something else, my Mother could not stop talking about her lobster ravioli. I even tried a piece and I have to say she was right (as Mother’s typically are). In a season bogged down by lobster stuffed meals, Alberto’s lobster ravioli certainly holds its own. Absolutely perfect is pretty much all I can say.

After all that, I knew I had to check out the desert menu. I’d never leave a new restaurant without checking out the best part of the meal. A desert can really make a break a restaurant to a certain degree. I ordered tiramisu, a favorite desert in our family. While it was certainly a huge piece, one that took myself and my parents to finish, it was definitely worth it. It was a little creamier than I’m used to from other restaurants, but it was still very enjoyable nevertheless.

All in all, I (and my parents) were really glad we decided to give Alberto’s a shot. We’re always looking for new places to go out to eat and I believe we added another one to our shortlist last Friday. One thing that my family and I were discussing as we left was the idea of coming back and sitting in the bar towards the North street end of the restaurant. There was a live pianist and a lively atmosphere that piqued our interest. In short, if you like good Italian food in a nice, family friendly atmosphere, I would for sure check out Alberto’s.
