Building Experience from the Inside, Out

Making the decision to change your career at some point in life can be daunting. But, if it’s a case where you finally discovered the career that’s right for you, it can be extremely rewarding. And, if you join an organization that can provide both its customers and its employees with the best possible impression, everyone benefits. At Mid-Cape Home Centers, their specialty is experience that builds, and it’s all about continuously improving each and every contractor and customer experience. That experience all begins with the right team.

The goal of the Mid-Cape experience is to provide the best service, teamwork, product quality, first-class delivery, and positive experiences that continue to build.  Building relationships with each contractor customer helps them to learn product preferences, and allows them to seamlessly meet specific project needs.  Together with its contractors and architects, Mid-Cape doesn’t just build homes – they build communities.

Having a top-quality team to handle your project needs is essential at Mid-Cape. For contractors, every minute not spent on a job site is money wasted, so they look to hire the best.

Striving to provide contractors with quick and reliable delivery, Iain Finlay’s job to make sure deliveries are made on time. Currently a Yard Manager in Orleans, Finlay had always heard good things about Mid-Cape, as his father had been a loyal customer for 40 years.  Prior to joining Mid-Cape Home Centers in 2015, Finlay worked at Staples for the previous eight years but once he joined Mid-Cape, he never looked back.

“After working as a forklift operator for a few months, I was promoted to yard foreman in Wellfleet. For the next year and a half, I happily ran the Wellfleet yard,” he says.  Recently, Finlay was promoted again, to Yard Manager in Orleans. Eventually, he says, he’d like to manage one of the stores.

“I really enjoy helping the contractors as they come in to get product for their jobs and seeing that they get everything they need,” he says. “We had a contractor from Provincetown who was looking for specific lengths of 1×12 cedar. I was able to find him those boards, and get them to him that day.”

Coming from the opposite sign of the spectrum, Joe Solecki made the decision just under two years ago to give up his career as a self-employed contractor to join the Mid-Cape team.  “I had a great experience with Mid-Cape as a contractor,” Solecki says. “I have had an even better experience as an employee.”

Joe Solecki came to Mid-Cape to help expand its Custom Millwork Shop. Custom millwork is a crucial aspect of home or building restoration and maintenance, particularly here on Cape Cod. Many historic and older structures in this region require special, hard-to-fit window and door frames, and it can be difficult to find the right products that will be able to stand up to punishing coastal conditions. Living in close proximity to salt water, not to mention living in an area prone to hurricanes, winds and coastal storms, can take a huge toll on homes and having the most durable products is key to their survival.

Joe Solecki works in Mid-Cape’s Custom Millwork Shop.

“I find it extremely rewarding to help our customers (both contractors and homeowners) with all their custom millwork and specialty projects,” Solecki says. “We have a great facility in our millwork shop and, oftentimes, it’s easier for us to produce or re-produce custom moldings and trim than it would be in the field.”

Solecki knows from his own experience as a contractor, it can be difficult to find all the materials needed in one place. Owners of older homes typically wish to preserve the historic character.  Mid-Cape’s wide array of products and services include supplying custom doors, coffered ceilings, architectural hardware and coastal windows, as well as value engineering of plans and the personal attention of a designated team.

“It’s always rewarding when customers come into our shop with a specialty project after trying multiple places to get the work they need done, and we are able to say, ‘Absolutely, we can do that for you’,” he adds.

Having an on-site millwork shop gives Mid-Cape Home Centers the edge when it comes not only to producing specialty projects, it makes contractors’ jobs easier when it comes to having items in stock. Mid-Cape carries in-stock inventory of MDO panel, MDF, AZEK, oak, maple, cherry, pine and poplar. Any other special-order hardwoods can be arranged to be brought in and machined to a customer’s specifications. They also carry the top brands in vinyl, PVC and polyurethane for moldings.

A custom project is getting completed in the Custom Millwork Shop.

Having the right milling equipment on-site helps both contractors and customers. There’s no need to have your projects sent out for completion – they can be custom-made right in the shop.  Having the best machinery in-house can allow them design and create almost any shape, it allows for shorter turnaround time, and that results in making your vision a reality much faster.

Mid-Cape Home Centers has six locations, which serve Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts with a diverse portfolio of building supplies, materials and services. As a family-run organization, Mid-Cape understands the importance of building local and supporting local communities. They’re goal is simple – to continue the long-term success that began 122 years ago.

Mid-Cape Home Centers’ specialty is experience that builds – experience that builds convenience, experience that builds trust, and experience that builds communities – experience that has been building since 1895, and experience that will continue to build as we evolve and learn something new every day.
