Cape Cod Cornhole: I left the Finance world to make Cornhole Boards

Chad Leverone says he never thought he would one day have a career making cornhole boards.

Three years ago, Chad attended the Fenway Cornhole Classic….and was hooked. He, along with a few friends, began organizing games at various places around the Cape. The response was amazing.

Although the game is extremely popular across the USA, there was a lack of games and tournaments on the Cape. “There weren’t any cornhole competitions on the Cape at the time. We had no idea it would be so popular. Teams were coming from off cape. We’d have 60 or 70 teams turning up to play,” says Leverone.

At the time Chad was working in the finance world in Boston and the daily commute was taking its toll.  Chad says, “The work life balance wasn’t working. I wasn’t seeing the family. One night my wife and I sat down and said we’ve got to make some changes”
He approached the current owner, and along with a partner, Marty Hitch. Together they purchased Cape Cod Cornhole. Chad says they didn’t expect it to be so successful straight away. “I thought I’d have to have a part time job on the side, but the response was a whirlwind.”

The personalized boards are being ordered by companies for marketing purposes, individuals for at home games, or for special events like weddings and birthdays. He’s shipped boards as far away as Texas, North Carolina, and Las Vegas. Cape Cod Cornhole also participates in several fundraisers. Chad says, “It’s introduced me to so many people. I’ve gotten to do be in involved with some amazing events.

And his life at home has definitely improved. When I spoke to Chad, he’d just dropped his daughter and her friend off at school. He would go on to spend the day making deliveries around the Cape. He’d finished in time to have dinner at home. That’s something that just didn’t happen before. He says he couldn’t be happier. “I wanted to do something that I loved doing and spend time with my family. I had no idea it would be making corn hole boards.”
