Yet another celebrity will be joining us on Cape Cod this summer! One of the greatest Broadway actresses, Carol Channing will be visiting Provincetown this week for a program at the Town Hall on Thursday night.

Born in Seattle, Channing began her career in New York City as a teenager after spending some time in California and a year of school in Vermont. At the age of 19, Channing debuted on Broadway with Let’s Face It!, one of the ten Broadway productions she joined. In 1949, Channing gained national recognition after starring in the hit production, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, as she played characteristically similar blonde bombshell, Lorelei Lee. Jerry Herman’s Hello, Dolly! only increased Channing’s fame, as she landed the signature role as Dolly Levi in 1964. Her performance as Dolly won her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. To add to her repertoire, Channing has made guest appearances on television sitcoms and talk shows, and has appeared in numerous films. She has toured the country with revivals of Hello, Dolly! in recent decadesChanning has done it all – from singing, acting, to comedy – and received three Tony Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar nomination along the way.

At the Provincetown Town Hall this Thursday, Channing will not be putting on a show, but having an open conversation with the audience. At 93-years old, Channing has a lifetime of stories and insight to share. The program will address questions sent via the Internet and Channing will discuss her career with friend Tommy Tune, another Broadway legend and 9-time Tony Award winner. Tune has extensive experience in theater direction, production, and choreographing, along with all types of performance, sharing a similar career path to that of Channing. He and Channing offer each other business advice as well as a long-lasting friendship that has flourished since the two met when Tune was just 17 years old.

Welcome the two Tony Award winners to Provincetown and attend “An Evening With Carol Channing & Tommy Tune,”  this Thursday, August 7th, as part of the Crown and Anchor series this summer.
