Consider Donating To These Local Cape Cod Organizations This Holiday Season

Anyone who has been outside lately knows that for better or worse winter is very nearly upon us and with that, the holiday season. With all the stresses that entails, the shopping, the crowds, the family visits, it can be easy to lose sight of what’s important.

So instead of thinking about the early morning sales, or that crazy driver who just swiped what was clearly your parking space, there are a number of organizations here on Cape Cod to remind you that this time of the year really ought to be about doing good for somebody in need. That’s right, it is donation season folks.
With a number of worthwhile organizations competing for your limited dollars, how is one to know what to do?

Well, as our own little gift to you, we have compiled a list of organizations who would be all too happy to accept your contributions of gifts, clothing, or cash and in turn help you feel good about yourself for being a quality person. Furthermore, we have highlighted organizations that serve the Cape Cod community.

Family Pantry
The holidays this time of year are as much about the food as anything else, and when times are tough it can be difficult to afford a quality meal, let alone putting together a spread worthy of the occasion. The Family Pantry is here to help. All year long, and particularly during this time of year when money is especially tight, the non-profit works to bring food and clothing to those who need it. Plus every turkey you donate, every can of beans, ear of corn, bushel of bananas, every head of lettuce, jar of preserves, it all stays on Cape Cod. You’re feeding your kid’s classmates or a local senior from our community.

For what it’s worth, the pantry is also collecting bags of toys, puzzles, games, and new clothing for eligible local children. In 2016 they were able to provide for more than 1,000 children and this year hope to do more.

Housing Assistance Corporation
If helping those on Cape Cod is a priority to you this holiday season, then the Housing Assistance Corporation’s annual telethon may be the way to go. The event supports the organization’s housing programs on Cape Cod and the Islands, including their four local family shelters serving nearly 200 families.
HAC also provides critical support services to seniors and veterans on fixed incomes; low-income residents looking to purchase their first home; and the Cape’s workforce, juggling two and sometimes three jobs, just to remain in their homes. Plus it’s a telethon so you don’t even need to get out of your pajamas to do your part.

Cape Cod Military Support Foundation
The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation hosts a Holiday Party each year where between up to 900 local children receive toys, can choose a gift for their parents, and enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, food and pictures with Santa. The organization aims to ease stress on military families, particularly when a member is deployed overseas. The event is made possible by the generous donations of toys, gifts, decorations, wrapping paper, and funding from individuals, grants, and businesses. A contribution to Operation Santa Claus ensures that your donation is going toward local families who are serving us all.

United Way of Cape Cod
The Cape Cod United Way’s annual Give Where You Live Campaign is set to begin again in partnership with Cape Cod Broadcasting’s Ocean 104.7 and Cape Classical 107.5. The effort empowers you to improve the lives of our neighbors in need. As part of the Give Where U Live campaign, you’ll read and hear about the specific needs of Cape Codders who could use a helping hand. Contributing to a car repair for a struggling single parent, paying a utility bill for a senior on a fixed income, providing school supplies for students without them… there are SO many ways you can help this holiday season. You can donate right now by clicking here.

Child and Family Services
Cape Country 104 and 99.9 The Q are once again teaming up with one of the region’s oldest social service agencies, Child & Family Services, to host the annual Christmas Wishes holiday drive as a way for people to sponsor local families in need this holiday season. We all know that Christmas is the time of giving… But all too often, we overlook giving to the people who need our help the most. This holiday season, Cape Cod Broadcasting Media has reached out to the Cape Cod community to make sure the families in our own neighborhoods do not go without this Christmas. Click here to find the stories of 200 local families who could use your help this Christmas season.
