Walk through this amazing creature and learn all about its behavior and habits from the inside out! It will be an extraordinary journey! Appropriate for all ages. Free with museum admission. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents “Magic of the Snowy Owl”
The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster continues its Nature Screen monthly film series with PBS’ original Nature documentary: “Magic of the Snowy Owl.” A team of intrepid filmmakers provides an intimate look at the snowy owl, a bird made popular by Harry Potter’s faithful companion Hedwig. Though “snowies” naturally stand out for their beauty, intelligence and charm, in their eerie, bleak arctic home, it is their determination and survival skills that are truly magical. They breed and attempt to raise young in one of the harshest environments on the planet. Once summer arrives, they will have just 82 days of sunlight to successfully raise a family of helpless owlets until they are ready and able to fly. Showings are continuous every 50 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free with museum admission. For more information please call: 508-896-3867, ext. 133. 869 Main St., Brewster.

Lux Seminalis – Seeds of Light
Patmos Art Center presents the exhibition Lux Seminalis, by Gabriele Wilpers of Essen, Germany. Lux Seminalis, or Seeds of Light, explores and reflects upon human existence in a new and original way through glass sculpture, found objects and paint. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a series of small glass window studies, later used in a full scale glass installation, Stations of the Cross: Windows from the Catholic Church of St. Valentin in Limbach/Baden, Germany. The church in Limbach was destroyed in a devastating fire in 2003, and later rebuilt, serving as a symbol of Christ’s death and resurrection. Gabriele Wilpers gathered dust, ash and soot from the site and used them to produce a likeness of the starry sky but in negative, with the stars appearing dark against a light background, calling to mind the destruction of the church, and a reminder of the transience of human existence. The theme of transformation, the reference to the disaster and how it was overcome, and the journey of Christ’s passion to resurrection became the starting point for the church’s renovation through architectural and artistic design. 9 Anchor Drive, Orleans.

New Year’s Day Party
This Cape Symphony party has become the perfect tradition to usher in the new year. Filled with surprises and gorgeous music, next year’s show is again filled with unique guests, including nationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel to present virtuosic versions of Auld Lang Syne and the Blue Danube Waltz, as well as clever piece based on the Monkees! Of course we’ll have the usual mix of musicals and light Viennese operetta, including the Cape Symphony debut of the brilliant Broadway star, Marissa McGowan. Comedic genius, Dan Kamin will help us ring in the New Year with cheer! Jung-Ho Pak will be the conductor. The Vienna Café, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Arrive early and purchase fine pastries by Pain D’Avignon. For more information, visit capesymphony.org. BPAC, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis.

Looking Ahead: First Annual Museum Members’ Exhibition
As the first-ever juried CCMoA Members‘ Exhibition, celebrating our 35th year, Looking Ahead is an exhibition calling for innovative and inspired work from our museum’s members. The theme, “Looking Ahead,” is a hopeful, forward-looking, and unscripted response to our 35th-anniversary programs of honoring our past, and it suggests a point of reference from which the artist or subject views the near and far in both space and time. The perception of this viewer may result in a feeling, a sensory response, or a vision. If there is an “ahead,” can we assume there is a “before,” a “behind,” or a “past”? This broad theme is open to each artist’s unique inspiration, and was chosen to encourage a variety of interpretations. General admission is $9, seniors $7; ages 13-18 $5; students 19+ $7 (with ID). Members and children 12 and under are free. Cape Cod Museum of Art, 60 Hope Lane, Dennis.
