First Night Celebrations, Cape Cod Style!

First Night is a long tradition all over the world, including right here on Cape Cod. It marks the old year’s departure, and welcomes a new one, full of hope and excitement. But here’s no need to fight traffic to head to Boston or Providence to ring in the New Year, when incredible First Night celebrations can be found right here in your own back yard.

Chatham – Come join the party First Night Chatham! This is a family-friendly, alcohol-free, town-wide celebration of the arts with over 70 performances and events. This will be First Night Chatham’s 26th New Year’s Eve celebration, and the theme this year is “Light up the Town!” Enjoy a full day of fun and entertainment, starting with the Town Photo at the Chatham Lighthouse at Noon, and culminating with Fireworks at Oyster Pond as the Countdown Cod takes us to the stroke of midnight. Sandwich –Sandwich Village “Town of Giants” will celebrate its fifth annual First Night event on Saturday, Dec. 31, from 4 to 9 p.m. This New Year’s Eve is a non-alcoholic family festival of the arts and multicultural activities, with musical presentations, and live performances. The event is located in venues both inside and outside, in and around Sandwich Village. The community celebration of music, art and dance is open to all. A Reveler’s Parade is held at 8 p.m. Organizations that would like to march in the parade are asked to register on the First Night Sandwich website. There will be ice sculptures, a children’s ice skating rink, lighted giants in the village and along Route 6A, children’s crafts, an enchanting fairy garden, jazz, blues, food vendors, storytelling, a Resolution Wall, Grand Finale Countdown with lighthouse, cannon fire, giant sparklers, and fireworks. The finale will be held at Town Hall, following the parade. Buttons are: $10 Adults, $6 children 3 to 12 years-old. Robyn Whaples, of Sandwich, created the 2017 button. Provincetown – Uniquely known as “First Light,” Provincetown’s New Year’s Eve is a party not to be missed. In fact, it runs for five days! From Dec. 29 through Jan. 2, you can enjoy the fabulous town-wide celebrations as only P-town can offer. There will be parties from one end of town to the other, some for families and some for adults only. Check out the Wicked Wonderland (for ages 10 and up) on Dec. 31, as well as numerous art displays, musical showcases and shopping. More of the festivities include New Year’s Day community fireworks, Friday Night Holiday Sing-a-Long at Town Hall, holiday markets, concerts, a movie night, and so much more.
