Gov. Charlie Baker got a surprise blast from the past when he stopped in at the opening of the new Subarua of New England headquarters in Norwood the other night.
Car magnate Ernie Bock Jr. had unearthed a photo from 1976 of the then-19-year-old Baker rocking out in the mosh pit at an Aerosmith concert and had it blown up, framed and hung on the wall.
“I was super shocked,” Baker told the Herald. “It was a very kind gesture.”
The picture was snapped at the old Providence Civic Center by rock photographer Ron Pownall who shot it from the stage of the first couple of rows of fans at the show. Banker, his hand in the air, was in the center of the shot.
“I got there early, got to the pit with some friends and that’s pretty much it,” Baker said, according to the Herald. “It was the hottest I have ever been in my life – had to be middle of August. Rick Derringer was the opener.”
The photo was later featured in a two-page spread in Rolling Stone magazine in a story about Aerosmith. Boch gave the governor a copy of the photo to take home but he said he hasn’t yet decided where to hang it — he has to check with his wife.
