Healthy Food Makes Healthy Pets at Country Garden

Feeding and caring for your pets is always a priority, and making sure they are fed the healthiest foods and treats possible is paramount to giving them long and healthy lives. But, with so many products to choose from, how can you know that your pet is getting the best in nutrition?

Country Garden in Hyannis is known and trusted for its lush, green indoor and outdoor plants, water features, landscaping products, tools and gardening supplies. But did you know that an enormous section of their store is completely dedicated to the health and wellness of your furry and feathered friends?

“We have a lot of customers who swear they come here multiple times every year and they had no idea that we have pet supplies,” said Purchasing Manager Craig Nelson. “But we do sell a lot of pet food, particularly for dogs.”

As a pet owner, it is your duty to provide your pet with what he or she needs to the best of your abilities, and Country Garden carries an array of foods, products, treats, and more that can help keep your pet happy and healthy.

Country Garden’s Pet department offers a unique shopping experience and selection. “We carry holistic, healthy products on our shelves for dogs, cats, wild birds, small animals like guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and chickens, and specialty foods for pets with dietary restrictions. And we also carry food for limited-ingredient diets, which are better for pets with allergies.” Says Assistant Purchasing Manager Tracy Monroe. All of the foods are made in North America, and most right here in the United States.

As a local family owned and operated business, Country Garden goes above and beyond to “keep it local” and make those hard to find products available in the store. If they don’t carry what you’re looking for, they can quickly order it for you. “We do a lot of special orders. If you’re going to need it regularly, we can order enough to keep it on the shelf for the next time you need it,” Monroe said. “We can usually get most anything from the different suppliers we work with,” said Nelson.

New pet products are frequently arriving at Country Garden and many are locally made. Customers will be delighted to find treats and products from local vendors, such as Healing Tree, which sells hemp products that can help dogs with anxiety and joint problems, and Lovin’ Paws, which manufactures cute and trendy bandanas. Some of the most popular products include No-Hide dog chews, which are 100 percent rawhide-free, and Stella & Chewy frozen and freeze-dried food and kibble.

The wild bird feed sells year-round, Nelson said, along with other pet food. “It keeps us a little less lonely through the winter,” he joked. They carry food for outdoor birds and chickens, including organic chicken feed. “The market for small animal food and products is definitely growing for us. It’s easier for people to just pop in here to get what they need. We try to keep our pricing competitive so there’s really no need to shop elsewhere.”

Nelson added that Country Garden offers a generous rewards program on their pet foods and supplies and there are many ways for customers to save money. “Customers always say ‘wow’ when they find out how many different ways there are to save,” Nelson said, including monthly coupons on their website, special in-store savings and vendors’ coupons, as well. If you click on the ‘pet and bird’ section on the website under ‘Departments,’ it will bring you to the coupon. Also, in the weekly sales flyer, a pet item a week is normally featured.

For the past seven years, Country Garden holds its Dog Days of Summer event – a benefit dog wash for the Cape & Islands K9 Relief Fund. This year, on Aug. 11 and 12, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Country Garden employees will wash your dog for a $10 donation. “This is not only a fundraiser, but a team-building event for us,” Monroe said. “Everyone wants to wash the dogs.” Last year’s event included a variety of vendors, the Yarmouth Police K-9 unit and more.

Country Garden also sponsors the “Cutest Pet” contest in partnership with Cape Cod Broadcasting Media to support the Cold Noses Foundation. Prizes include a total of $1,000 in Country Garden gift cards for the winners.

Furry friends on a leash are always welcome at Country Garden, and new pet owners are rewarded. If you’ve welcomed a new pet into your life within the last three months, and bring in proof of adoption or sale, you will receive 25 percent off all the pet supplies you purchase that day, and you’ll receive a 20 percent off coupon for a future visit.

Your pet depends on you for his or her wellbeing and it’s up to you to make sure that your pet is well cared for. Start with giving them a healthy diet from Country Garden.
