Hello, My Name Is: Betsy Rich
Occupation: Marketing Manager at Hy-Line Cruises
What was your first paying job?
I worked for the food service department at Wheaton College when I was 14
When was the last time you laughed really hard?
Playing the “Patently Stupid” Jackbox game with my family. I laughed so hard I literally cried and needed my inhaler. Let’s just say, my dad has a very “creative” imagination involving “potty humor” and body parts that I had never known about.
Did you grow up on the Cape?
No, I grew up in Norton, MA. My dad got a job in Mashpee when I was 17, I lived with my grandparents, then my uncle, to finish my senior year of high school and then moved to the Cape full-time.
Where is your ‘go-to’ spot for a scoop of ice cream?
Katie’s on Main Street, Hyannis. Peppermint with chocolate jimmies, please.
Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape?
One group that stands out to me is Gosnold. Mental health and substance abuse disorders effect many families. It does not discriminate.
What is the one thing you love to do that surprises people the most?
Last year I was a cast member (along with my son) at Captain Lazarus’ Haunted Harbor. I loved scaring the crap out of people! Who knew?
In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?
On-air radio personality!
What person had the greatest influence on you and why?
This is actually a present-tense question for me. My son, Christopher. He influences my thoughts, the majority of decisions I make, and the majority of what comes out of my mouth. “If at first you don’t succeed, do it like your mother told you.”
If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see
Not much – fruit, vegetables, cheese, yogurt, fixins’ for chili. The pie and meatballs are gone. Sorry.
If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring?
First of all, it has to be a Hy-Line fishing boat. I would’ve loved the opportunity to go fishing with my grandfather and a bottle of Madeira wine.
