Hello My Name Is: Cheryl Park

Welcome to our new feature, “Hello My Name Is…”. In the coming weeks we will have the opportunity to spend a little time getting to know people in our community. As you know, the best way to learn about someone is to ask questions. In this series we will ask ten questions to different individuals so that we can know the folks who live with us here on Cape Cod.

I am very happy to spend a little time with one of my very talented co-workers here at CCB-Media who you can find on Ocean 104.7 from 10am to 3pm and from 3pm to 7pm on 99.9 the Q

Hello, my name is Cheryl Park

What was your first paying job?

Babysitting. I grew up with six younger siblings and two working parents, so I came fully trained! First job with a printed paycheck? I worked in housekeeping at the Blue Water Resort in South Yarmouth.

When was the last time you laughed really hard?

Yesterday. My daughter sent me a video of one of her cats – she has very silly cats. My belly laughs usually originate with one of my kids – they can make me laugh faster and more joyfully than anyone. I’m so grateful we find the same things funny!

Did you grow up on the Cape? If not, where did you grow up and why did you come to the Cape?

I’m not a native, but my family moved here when I was 4 or 5 – so yes, I grew up here!

Where is your ‘go-to’ spot for a cup of chowder?

Captain Parker’s. No contest.

Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape?

Yes – the Cape and Islands chapter of the Special Olympics. I have some very dear friends who are athletes, and I have a deep love and respect for the volunteers who give their time and their hearts so willingly! I love CapeAbilities, too.

What is the one thing you love to do that surprises people the most?

Golf. Full disclosure – I’m a TERRIBLE golfer, but lord, do I LOVE to play! Somehow, no one ever pegs me for a golfer…

In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?

Anything that would allow me the money and the time to golf every day. 😊

What person had the greatest influence on you and why?

There have been many – but I think I’d have to say my grandparents. So many of the values at my core I learned from them. I just adored them.

If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see?

Fruit, veggies, eggs, tofu, kimchi (well, you’d smell that before you’d see it, lol!), and dark chocolate, which is obviously at its best when it’s cold. 😉

If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring?

My Dad. Funny, for as many years as he lived here on the Cape, he was never much of a beach and boat kinda guy. He had an amazing work ethic, and was always working – if not at his job, out in the yard, or around the house. But back in the early 2000’s, he and my stepmom bought a winter home in Florida – and he bought a boat. I went down to visit, and saw a whole different side of my Dad! Smiling, relaxed, tanned – enjoying himself in a way I’d never seen him do! We lost him 6 years ago to cancer. I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t give to spend one more afternoon with him on that boat.

We are always looking for new people to feature in “Hello, My Name Is…”. If you know an interesting member of the Cape community, please send us their name: [email protected]. When possible, please include their contact information and a little about them.
