Hello, My Name Is: Michelle Law

Welcome to our new feature, “Hello My Name Is…”. I hope you are enjoying the chance to spend some time getting to know people in our community. As you know, the best way to learn about someone is to ask questions. In this series we ask ten questions to different individuals so that we can know the folks who live with us here on Cape Cod.

HELLO, MY NAME IS… Michelle Law

Occupation: Gallery Manager/Visual Specialist & Artist

What was your first paying job?

Listening to book reports and organizing the stacks in the Children’s Department of the Jacksonville (Illinois) Public Library

When was the last time you laughed really hard?

Last week. Trying to keep the camera steady while my husband was trying to teach himself to “Floss”

Did you grow up on the Cape?

Nope. I grew up in Central Illinois and moved to the Cape with my Mayflower descendant husband, Mark, whom I met while he was finishing college in the Midwest. He professed that he needed to be by the ocean. I did not complain!

Where is your ‘go-to’ spot for a cup of chowder?

When my parents come to visit, I’ll watch my dad enjoy a cup at Seafood Sam’s at the canal.

Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape?

That’s easy- my home away from home, Cotuit Center for the Arts. I started by volunteering at CCftA almost two decades ago and now work there full time.  I am so proud to be a part of this arts organization dedicated to educating and inspiring people of all ages and abilities.

What is the one thing you love to do that surprises people the most?

I’m a pretty rusty, but I can speak sign language and love the choreography of this communication.

In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?

Using my wedding china, rescuing lots of dogs, and learning to play an instrument

What person had the greatest influence on you and why?

The friend who convinced to me attend the college where he was enrolled.  Because of this decision, I found “my people” and my path. I am forever grateful. I graduated from Southern Illinois University.

If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see?

Yogurt, expired hummus, and a variety of poorly re-sealed packages sliced cheese

If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring?

My husband and my dog…my favorite seafaring guys.

We are always looking for new people to feature in “Hello, My Name Is…”. If you know an interesting member of the Cape community, please send us their name:[email protected]. When possible, please include their contact information and a little about them.

Thank you!
