The first recorded European shipwreck off the coast of Cape Cod was that of The Sparrow-Hawk, on December 12, 1626. It landed on the shoals of Nauset Beach, near Orleans, under the helm of Captain Johnson, as reported by Governor Bradford of the famous Pilgrim Colony. In 1863, the ship was dug out of the mud and brought to Boston Common for a display. The bones of the Sparrow-Hawk are now on view at the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth.
