Organizations Helping Furloughed Workers During the Government Shutdown

It’s been a rough end to 2018 and start to 2019 for many furloughed workers here on the Cape and beyond.  If you are a furloughed worker or know one that is in need of help, the following organizations have stepped up.

Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee is offering free entrance to the museum for furloughed government employees and their families, up to four people.

CapeSpace is offering federal employees and family members free office space and coffee.

Falmouth Art Center at 137 Gifford St., Falmouth, is offering free art classes to furloughed government workers. Call 508-540-3304 or for more visit FalmouthArt.org

Pawsitive Provisions at 1336 Phinneys Lane, Unit 1-2, in Hyannis is offering not so perfectly packaged cat and dog food at no charge. For more information and to check on availability, call 508-957-2124.

The British Beer Company, which has locations in Hyannis, Falmouth and Sandwich, is offering $50 off the bill for furloughed government employees.  Alcohol is not included.

The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod is offering federal employees a special, zero-interest loan, available to current and new bank customers.  The federal employees are only eligible if they live or work on the Cape and Islands and have a checking account at the bank.

Cape Cod 5 is supporting those affected by the federal government shutdown through a zero percent loan program. The bank will also donate $30,000 to the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation.

Bourne, Falmouth and Mashpee public schools are offering free school meals for students from military families.

The MSPCA is stepping in with food relief so that pets do not go hungry. Click for more information.
