It’s Spring on Cape Cod – Time to Update Your Indoor Space

We’ve teamed up with Design Works of Yarmouth Port which specializes in eclectic home furnishings to bring you a few quick tips for welcoming spring into your home. Owners Ann and Margaret Hill have been bringing exciting and unusual items to their shop on historic 6a for 25 years. Here are their picks for 4 easy ways to bring in spring on any budget.

1. Bring the outdoors in

It may be too early to start digging in your garden, but it isn’t too early to bring a little of the outdoors in. Use a grow kit to start seeds inside for early blooms, herbs, and veggies. These kits will breathe new life into your home and studies have shown that house plants can make you calmer and more optimistic, decrease your blood pressure, stop headaches, improve mental health, and provide a better nights sleep. Mod Sprout has herb and floral seed starter kits that can be transplanted when weather permits…..and the packaging makes them a great gift for all occasions.

2. Spring cleaning

It may sound simple and obvious, but giving your home a thorough spring cleaning can boost your energy and lift your spirits. Try using products from a company like Caldrea that prides itself on making products that are earth friendly, effective, and aromatically delightful. The sea salt neroli counter top spray uses a special vegetable protein extract to make odors vanish from your kitchen or bath and the lavender pine all purpose cleaner uses plant-derived surfactants and natural Birch Bark extract to provide potency that is effective on tile, wood floors, natural stone and other countertops, cupboards and more.

3. Bright Colors

We tend to shy away from bright colors, but spring is the perfect time to let them shine! In small doses yellow and orange are said to be cheery, warm, and energetic….but don’t overdo it… too much yellow has been said to cause anger and frustration. Try accent pieces like tea towels, pillows, or throws that can be changed seasonally. Some of our favorites include these two tone linen gingham tea towels and these soft herringbone throws available in a many vibrant colors.

4. Botanical Prints

They say April showers bring May flowers, but we all know that on Cape Cod the month of May is often still cold and grey. So if you don’t see the May flowers out your back door, why not hang them on your wall. For quick and inexpensive botanical artwork try a vintage school chart from Cavallini & Co. These ready-to-hang oversized charts are printed on luxurious heavy weight Italian paper and are sure to bring spring into any room they inhabit.
