Looking for a great date experience? Cape Cod Has All You Need

Extending from America’s eastern seaboard into the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cod is a scenic peninsula, covered in natural beauty, and has been welcoming vacationers, sightseers, and lovers for generations. Known for its tranquil beaches and fresh seafood cuisine, many couples are drawn here not only for the food and beaches, but for all the unique opportunities for romance the Cape has to offer. Experience for yourself some of the best “date destinations” on Cape Cod.

Wellfleet Oyster Festival

Oysters have been renowned for their properties as an aphrodisiac, which may not hold any scientific truth, but is still fun to believe. You can find out for yourself, as they’re in plentiful supply at this popular annual festival. This event takes place each fall, and you and your other half can be served mouth-watering plates of oysters garnished with tabasco sauce, lemon and horseradish relish. While you enjoy the oysters, a variety of entertainment is available, as well. This could be the perfect date, if you love shellfish.  With food tents erected all along the seafront, you get a choice of everything from chourico-stuffed clams to quahogs filled with linquica (Portuguese smoked sausages).

Wellfleet Beach

When imagining the New England coastline, you may well picture miles of beautiful, sandy beaches, crashing Atlantic breakers and sandy dunes lining the background. Where better to invite someone special for a romantic picnic?

The interiors offer woodland trails and kettle ponds for you to explore together, while a trip to the award-winning Wellfleet Bay’s Eco Visitor’s Center is well worth it. This nature sanctuary is spread over a wide expanse of salt marshes, hosting an abundance of wildlife. Watch the majestic green herons spearing fish in Goose Pond or marvel at the hordes of fiddler crabs. Cruises are available around Nauset Marsh and the nearby harbor, and all this activity will definitely build-up an appetite.

Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard has been a favorite getaway for mainlanders for ages, and its rugged landscape is ideal for romantics who love to explore.

You can take a ferry over from the peninsula (you can even take your car or a bike, if you like) and partake in a variety of adventures once you get there. This island’s rugged coast is dotted with picturesque lighthouses, and Gay Head Light, right at the island’s westernmost tip, has been protecting ships since 1799.  The building was relocated in 2015 to put some distance between it and eroding cliffs, but is still open to the public. The views from the lighthouse are breathtaking, and not to be forgotten.

This lighthouse itself makes the perfect backdrop for a picnic, so pack a basket with sandwiches, drinks or a bottle of wine to enjoy after you’ve soaked up the history.

Cuttyhunk Island

Reputedly the first part of New England to be settled by the English in the early 1600s, Cuttyhunk is reached by ferry and is the fourth largest of the Elizabeth Islands southwest of Cape Cod. In days gone by, locals would keep an eye out for ships heading towards Boston, then clamber into little boats to help them navigate the treacherous reefs. Nowadays, the waters around the Cape are home to all sorts of watersport activities.

Cuttyhunk can also be the perfect romantic retreat. There are many quaint bed-and-breakfast places open during the summer months. You can embark on some sport-fishing, pitting your wits against the bluefish and bass. But a far better idea is simply to enjoy the catches after local fishermen have done all the hard work.

Cape Cod offers secluded bays and breathtaking scenery and more opportunities for romance and adventure than you can possibly imagine. Whether you visit as a couple or if you’re traveling alone and hoping to meet nearby singles, you’ll find abundant opportunities for adventure during the summer on Cape Cod.
