There was a brisk chill in the air early Saturday morning as hundreds of people made their way into the National Cemetery in Bourne. From a World War II veteran to Vietnam to the Gulf War and Desert Storm, there were veterans from nearly every decade standing side by side with family members and friends. All were there to help place nearly 77,000 American flags at each grave marker throughout the cemetery.  Gold Star Father, Paul Monti coordinates this powerful event twice a year in honor of his late son, Jared Monti.  Jared was a member of the United States Army and received the United States military’s highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in the War in Afghanistan. Sadly, Jared lost his life there in 2006. Volunteers will be needed Sunday, November 17th at 9:00am to help remove the flags and respectfully store them until Memorial Day in the Spring.
