Operation Flags Starts This Weekend At National Cemetery

military graveBOURNE – In observance of the Memorial Day, organizers of Operation Flags for Vets are once again planning to honor veterans and their families at rest at the National Cemetery in Bourne.

The all-volunteer event involves placing American flags on every grave at the cemetery–56,000 in all.

Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos said organizers can use some help with the huge endeavor. Volunteers place flags on the gravesites on Saturday, May 24.

Xiarhos said all 56,000 flags will be on display for a week and organizers can use help removing them as well.

Xiarhos said it is a chance to give back to those who have sacrificed by serving in the military.
