RESTAURANT REVIEW – Alberto’s Ristorante, Hyannis

Since 1984, Alberto’s Ristorante has been a staple for fine dining on Main Street in Hyannis. It is the go-to for fresh, delicious Northern Italian cuisine in the area, and its extensive lunch and dinner menus offer something for everyone.

A visit to Alberto’s is always a feast for the senses, as well as the appetite. Its rich, old-world décor and dark wood motif succeeds in making guests feel welcome and relaxed. From the side entrance, there is a long, comfortable bar to the left and a function room beyond. To the right, a short hallway leads to the dining rooms though arched doorways. Each has a number of roomy tables and booths, covered in crisp, white linens.

On the day we visited, we chose to visit at lunch time, taking advantage of the quiet early hour to enjoy our meal. Our server brought us to a corner booth, which allowed us to see most of the restaurant. A glass of the house red was bold and only slightly dry, and we were asked if we’d like some bread, which was warm and fresh, and was served with olive oil for dipping.

Alberto’s menu offers quite a variety (four pages) of traditional favorites, as well as a few surprises, including a three-course prix fix lunch special. It also offers a list of specialty martinis and cocktails.

We each decided to order the same item from the lunch menu, which our server was kind enough to pronounce for us – Farcite Napoletana – eggplant rolled and stuffed with ricotta cheese, baked with a San Marzano plum tomato sauce and three cheeses, along with a side of penne. We agreed that the meal was incredibly delicious and satisfying.

There was no sense of being rushed, even as more people entered the restaurant to enjoy the lunch hour. We chatted over bread and wine, talked about the décor, my companion mentioning that she had never had a bad experience at Alberto’s and that “consistency is key” when it comes to good food and good service, and rightly so.

If you find yourself in the area of Main Street while we currently enjoy the quiet hush of the off-season or during the busy and exciting summer months, Alberto’s fresh, quality ingredients and in-house preparation, along with its beautiful décor and wonderful staff, promises an experience in dining that will make you want to return again and again.
