Seeing Cardinals and Finding Signs: What Do They Mean?

Recently someone asked me if I believed in signs. Not like “No Parking” or “Yield” signs. Like signs from someplace else. Signs that someone is trying to contact you or give you guidance. You may have heard about finding dimes meaning that someone from your past is trying to get your attention.

Lately, I have been seeing cardinals. I know, the bright red birds are common in our area, but it seemed odd that I was seeing, what I think is the same cardinal at the same time in the same place again and again.

I am not usually a superstitious person. Once was nice. Twice was a coincidence. The third, fourth and tenth time got my attention.

Cardinals have been surrounded by spirituality for centuries. High ranking Catholic figures are called cardinals and wear deep red robes. Native American cultures believe that cardinals are the daughter of the sun and if you see a cardinal flying towards the sun you will have good luck.

I did a little more research and found a few more specific meanings beyond simple “good luck” like finding a penny.

One suggestion is that you might be doubting your strengths and the bright red bird is a reminder to check your confidence and move forward no matter the obstacles in your path.

Another belief is that cardinals are spiritual messengers. I have talked with many people who have mentioned seeing cardinals repeatedly after losing a loved one. Perhaps cardinals are sent to let you know that your loved one is still with you.

I began noticing cardinals soon after I lost a friend of mine. I came home from the wake, and there was a bright red bird looking in my kitchen window. He came back again and again. I will admit, although I don’t have a bird feeder, I began to welcomes his visits and even toss some crackers out the window when I don’t see him right away.
