Darrell Hammond of Saturday Night Live fame to help Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands Celebrate 40 years

Saturday Night Live alumni, Darrell Hammond, will be performing at Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center on Thursday Sept 7th to benefit The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands. Darrell Hammond holds the record for the number of consecutive seasons of any actor on the show.

During his 14 years on Saturday Night Live, Hammond became known for his impressions. Some of the familiar celebrity impressions include: Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Donald Trump, John McCain, Regis Philbin, Dick Cheney, Chris Matthews, Phil Donahue, Phil McGraw, Ted Koppel, John Travolta, Jesse Jackson, Geraldo Rivera and Sean Connery.

He’ll be bringing these impressions to Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center in an event for the 40th anniversary of The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands. Hammond is looking to bring to light an often under discussed subject: men and mental health. Hammond has revealed his story of childhood abuse and trauma that led to a secret life of self-injury and addiction. He has revealed the details of his painful past and how he learned survival techniques that he translated into a successful career.

During the evening, Hammond will describe the lasting effects of trauma, and how he lives every day for recovery. Telling the details of his painful past, his story may shock some, but it is also a force for healing. The evening with Darrell Hammond will conclude with a Q&A session followed by a set of his most famous impressions.

The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands was founded in 1977 to provide emotional support to those who are lonely, depressed, or suicidal. The organization is non-denominational and non-profit. With the support of over 885 volunteers, the organization has answered more than 975,000 phone calls from people in need and has provided comfort to countless others through its support groups and community outreach efforts.
